Welcome

Broome Men's Group Blog is Online!
"The Broome Men’s Group aims to promote an holistic approach to all men’s wellbeing in our backyard. It aims to provide advocacy and support for men in need, to build self esteem and promote strong minds and inclusion of the ethnically diverse mob of men that live in the Broome community."
The Broome Mens group is grass roots group arising from the community voice to bring men together for social events, health education and life skills building, while emphasizing support, self esteem and getting together.

It is also a steering body bringing together a variety of organisations and individual men (young or old) concerned with male well being. This gathering of men provides a network for communication and sharing of ideas between these organisations as well as an opportunity to support each other and promote male health. Minyirr Park Base Camp is the meeting place for this steering group.

Men of any age are welcome.

THE GROUPS’ OBJECTIVES.

These were developed at the first meeting of the Group in April 2007 and give a broad outline of issues and directions the men felt were important.

  • To develop a men’s voice from the grass roots up in the Broome community.
  • To devise and implement innovative strategy to improve the well being of men.
  • To provide advocacy for men needing support.
  • To support each other in our own fields of expertise.
  • To bring men together for healthy social events on a regular basis.
  • To provide health education to the men of Broome.
  • To develop life skills building for the men of Broome.

Over the following 12 months four basic principles have defined the group.

1. The Group is inclusive of all men of all cultures and seeks to utilize each others skills and areas of knowledge to support each other and to promote men’s well being.

2. The group aims to develop from the community’s voice, functioning as a continuing forum assessing community needs.

3. The sharing of knowledge between equals and the use of appropriate culture and environment to make that knowledge accessible has become a key principle of the education sessions run by the group.

4. The group aims to enrich and strengthen of our “wellbeing” and our “LIAN”.

These principles can be seen in action in the activities run by the group; the Monthly Meetings, the social events and the newsletter “True Fella’s”.Keep an eye out on this blog as we will have some updates on the next meeting!
